- Freelance nursing means working as an independent contractor (1099) rather than an employee; the nurse carries licensing, malpractice and tax obligations that an employer would otherwise hold.
- Precepting NP students is freelance work open to nurse practitioners, APRNs and master's-prepared nurses: a 120-hour block pays $1,440 to $2,400 at a rate the preceptor sets between $12 and $20 per student hour, in two deposits.
