Start freelancing as a preceptor

The application takes about ten minutes and costs nothing. It tells a coordinator what you hold, where you practice, which population you would teach, and the hours you could give. Nothing reaches a program until you accept a student.

Before you start, six checks

  • Your license is active with no restriction, probation or pending action.
  • Your certification matches the population you would precept and is not inside 90 days of lapse.
  • Two or more years have passed since your certification date, in that population.
  • Your clinic or video practice sees the visit types the course requires.
  • You can give a student roughly eight hours a week for a term, or four for a half-block.
  • Your practice will sign an affiliation agreement, or already holds one.

If one fails, apply anyway and say which. Some are fixed by time and some by paperwork, and a coordinator would rather tell you which than have you guess.

What you are not agreeing to

Applying does not commit you to a student, a rate, a program or a start date. Each is decided when a card arrives, and every card can be declined. You can restrict yourself to video, cap yourself at one student, block out weeks, or leave, at any time.
